I found this place yesterday, and i kinda like the idea of an online favorites list of all things Ninjutsu.
About me:
I started training with the Togakure-ryū Dojo's in Sydney in the 80's. Initially with the Sydney Central Dojo on Elizabeth street near Central station, And then with Mr Dean Gum at Hurstville (His parents ran a shop on the concourse of Hurstville station iirc)
Later i trained with Greg Alcorn, and Paul Desilva at Croyden and Merrylands
These days i dont formally train with anyone, But the philosophy of ninpō (忍法) remains a core component of my personal ideology.
I used to joke about taking a martial arts class so i didnt get beat up on the street, only to wind up paying a professional to beat me up weekly in the dojo, the irony always making me smile.
And while the two serious fights ive wound up in since were in my personal experience situations where all training and technique went out the window in the intensity of the moment, there is no doubt my training played a part in guiding the events to a conclusion where i walked away unscathed.
In hindsight it wasnt Taijutsu from start to finish in each case. It was dirty, and hectic and chaotic.
But i can see where elements of what i learned, "knowledge" rather than physical technique played its definitive part in my exiting both events relatively unhurt and my opponents less so.
So for me ninpō (忍法) is about the knowledge, the tactical mind. And is totally worth the cost in time and effort to embrace.
I wish you well on your journey through this fascinating art.
